Something of a peculiar career path for an artist - I am a chartered engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management. Those topped-up with a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Cardiff Business School (2000) and an NVQ Level 5 in Management (November 1995).
Following my retirement I studied art at Hereford College of Art and Design and was awarded an HND in Fine Art in 2005. I began exhibiting in 2004 and enjoyed early success in major competitions and regional exhibitions. I began study for an MA/MFA in Printmaking with the University of Wales, Newport, in October 2008.
Local government management was more my ‘thing’ than engineering. I was Director of Technical Services for Torridge District Council from 1986 to 1992, Director of Technical Services for Monmouth Borough Council from 1992 to 1995 and Director of Environmental Management for Torfaen County Borough Council from 1995 to 2001. From 2001 to 2003 I worked part-time as a performance management auditor for the Audit Commission in Wales.

My work reflects my interests in Biblical theology, poetry and the landscape and culture of rural north Monmouthshire where I live.
Currently I am working on new project with fellow artist (photographer) Sam Hughes. We live around 8 miles apart on different sides of the Monmouthshire – Herefordshire border. We plan to use the route between our homes with its dramatic Welsh Marches landscape, medieval churches, manor houses and castle, villages and country characters as the source of our inspiration. The outcome of the work will include drawings, prints, photographs, artists’ books, video and sound recordings.
